Earth Day 2009 Reminder: Tips to Decrease your IT Carbon Footprint

Earth Day 2009 is an excellent reminder to us humans that we must tread lightly on Mother Earth. We are told to “recycle” and “reuse” however, there is much more we can do to decrease our “carbon footprints”. The staff at Orange County Computer would like to wish you a Happy Earth Day and offer some Green IT Solutions.

• When it is time to replace the hard drive in your desktop or laptop, ask to have your hard drive replaced with “Green Power” drives that are Energy Star compliant. Western Digital offers several options for consumers.


• If you use a laptop primarily with the power cord, remove the battery from the system. This will increase the life of the battery and decrease your replacement time.


• Turn off your computer monitors when you are away from your desk.


• Plug home electronics into a power strip and turn the power strip off when the devices are not in use.


• Switch your home page on your web browser from Google.com to Blackle.com, this is Google’s energy efficient browser that was launched in 2007 and saved 1,198,231.735 watt hours as of the time this was written.

Orange County Computer, Inc. Launches New Company Website

Orange County Computer, Inc. just launched a new and improved company website. “We changed the site and implemented new software programs to effectively market our IT services and merge our social marketing efforts together”, says Alex Pinedo, CEO and Managing Partner. A website should accurately reflect the company’s scope of service. Thus, as an IT Company, our website reflects the latest design options with all relevant bells and whistles. We still have our online technology store but it has been removed from the new site and replaced with a link instead.

The services we provide are so vast that the on-line store needed to be isolated from the Comprehensive IT Solutions we provide.

Customer Support Issues

Recently Orange County Computer has had major problems with many different companies lately.

However the most apauling is the lack of support we have been getting from Allied Semiconductor out of Richardson, TX. This company shipped us product that was not ordered and upon trying to return it has stuck us with the shipping charges and refuses to credit us with the refund for the product. We have been trying for 3 weeks now to get this resolved with no progress.

We have left messages for the manager of the RMA/Credit department and have not heard back. Not only this but their prices are higher than other competitors and there customer service is poor. During this ordeal we were disconected by the staff multiple times.

Lake Forest Computer Repair Center Saves Another Customer from The Geeks

Yes, once again Orange County Computer saves yet another customer from having to deal with The Geeks ever again. A man came in to our local Computer Repair Store in Lake Forest with a new motherboard and memory for a Dell Desktop that was a few years old. The computer has been diagnosed by a Geek Squad technician. The diagnosis given to him was that he needed a new motherboard. The customer spent quite a bit of time finding the right replacement motherboard for his system. He decided to use the highly skilled repair technicians at Orange County Computer to replace the motherboard and add additional memory to his system. We told him that we would first confirm the diagnosis then if he indeed had a bad motherboard, we would gladly replace it for him. Well it turns out that this customer DID NOT have a bad motherboard and did not have to waste his valuable time and money looking for a replacement part as the problem with his system was the Power Supply! Luckily, a power supply is a much more affordable repair job. If the Geek techs had more experience troubleshooting hardware, then this lucky customer would not have ended up in our Tech Repair Center. We thank them once again for bringing us yet more dedicated customers that swear they will never visit The Geeks again.

On-Site Emergency Service: Orange County Computer Saves Another Company from incompetent IT Service Providers

If you ever question the skill set of your IT Service Provider or Computer Repair Technicians, don’t leave that unaddressed. Just last week a busy South Coast Animal Hospital contacted us in an utter panic as their company network was completely un-accessible.
